Sickle Cell Issues in India
In Nagpur, India, the Sickle Cell Society of India (SCSI) is demanding a new law to help with control and treatment of Sickle Cell Disease. The soceity talks about a developed contry like the USA, which does not have as high a population with the disease, having a National Sickle Cell Control Act (of 1972) and a Sickle Treatment Act (of 2003). A letter to the Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, soceity president Sampat Ramteke has demanded an enactment for a seperate law for the welfare of sickle cell patients.
